FEEDBACK FROM PARENTS:

My daughter attended the teen intensive last week and she had one of the best weeks ever! Every day she came home to tell us what an incredible experience she had. From the workshops, to the editorial conference, instructors/ counselors to the other kids - everyone was just amazing. She can't stop talking about going back next year. And we are really hoping that she will be able to. We just want to thank you for creating and running such an incredible experience for teens who are passionate about writing. FEEDBACK FROM THE TEENS

ABOUT THE CLASSES: The first day I was intimidated by how good others' works were, but I realized that I had to write in my own style of writing and that I should just have fun with my work.

We were able to share our work that we have been working on which made me more open about telling my stories.

I liked how this workshop allowed you to explore every part of your story, helping you to create a cohesive whole.

My favorite part was I wasn’t censored. I don’t usually write things that would need to be, but I always worry my creativity will be stifled or that someone will find it too disturbing or personal. That wasn’t the case here. I felt free which helped me write my best work.

I made new friends and developed a deeper connection with myself as a writer!

It was really, really cool to work with such an experienced author. Very insightful!

The class was incredibly engaging and a great space to be creative.

This class motivated me to write more than I normally do.

I enjoyed the insight I could get from someone with industry experience.

ON EXPLORING POETRY: Cat may be the greatest teacher I’ve ever had.

ON CREATING CHARACTER: The teacher really cared about your characters just as much as you do

ON WRITING GRAPHIC NOVELS: I LOVED this class!!! I’ve always wanted to write/make a graphic novel, since I’m an artist and a writer, but I’ve never known how to do that until this class.

ON ECO-FICTION: This workshop was awesome! I liked how it forced you to examine our relationship with nature and that creativity and sharing were both so encouraged!

WEDNESDAY LITERARY ADVENTURES:

ON THE MORGAN LIBRARY VISIT: I absolutely loved going to the Morgan Library and Museum. It was so cool seeing Charles Dickens, Sylvia Plath, Charlotte Bronte, and Oscar WIlde’s diaries and manuscripts!

It was such a cool place. I loved learning and seeing everything. My favorite part was the conversation at the end of the day. There were so many interesting points of view.

ON THE DESERTED VILLAGE: I thought it was super fun! I loved that we were able to run wild with ideas but still had some restraints to spice things up

MY FAVORITE PART: • Time to write independently.
• Making new friends and bonding with old friends
• Probably lunch, where I got to talk to some of the funniest, most interesting people I know
• Spending time with friends who share my interest in writing
