TWC’s Fourth Annual Gifts for Writers Compilation

TWC’s Fourth Annual Gifts for Writers Compilation

It’s holiday time again – and here at The Writers Circle, we’re celebrating with our fourth annual Gifts for Writers compilation. Personally, I get tons of great holiday gift ideas from scouring the Internet and hope this particular list is useful for the writers in your life – yourselves included!

This year, we’re dividing the list into four main categories: Writing Tools, Be the Writer, Just for Fun, and Yes, TWC Has You Covered!

Writing Tools

What do you do with all those extra notebooks where you’ve jotted down ideas for prose and poetry, taken notes at writing class, even used just to write down the shopping list? Save them? (I do – and never look at them again.) Toss them out, feeling bad about it? This year, there are two ways to help you avoid adding to the landfill or cluttering up your bookshelves:

The Wipebook, a reusable whiteboard notebook, has hypergloss film pages which allow you unlimited drafts, but limit smudging. Each Wipebook comes with a smudge-proof pen so your thoughts and projects stay intact—until you decide to re-use a page.

But what if you need to keep those notes? The Rocketbook Wave provides you with the freedom of a traditional pen and paper notebook, while instantly sending your notes into the cloud using your smartphone. When you use Pilot FriXion pens with the Wave notebook, you can erase your notes using your microwave oven and reuse your notebook.

This is great, but what if inspiration strikes late at night or when you’re in the shower – the time all the really good ideas show up? The Dream Essentials Nite Note Nighttime Notepad is an alluringly alliterative way to lie comfortably in bed and write on a pad that lights up when you remove the pen, then turns back off when you replace it.

If you’re not in bed but still need to write in the dark, you might choose the Pilot’s Pen Night Writer, an LED-powered ink penlight that lets you see what you’re writing at night!

And if you’re in the shower? We return to an oldie but a goodie, which we included in our very first holiday gift list – the Aqua Notes Water Proof Note Pad. After all, there’s nothing more frustrating than that fantastic idea that gets washed down the drain!

Writing by hand is all very well, but many writers think best at a keyboard. If you wish you had one that worked with all of your devices – meaning you don’t have a millennial’s ability to type rapid-fire into your phone or tablet – the Logitech Bluetooth Multi-Device Keyboard may be just what you’re looking for. This keyboard can switch between Windows and Mac computers, Android and iOS Tablets and Smartphones.

Of course, using any kind of device has its downsides as well, including the distinct possibility of distraction from social media, online games, and other linked applications. The Freedom Digital Distraction Blocker, which now works on all operating systems and devices, will block out everything but the manuscript you’re working on for a pre-set amount of time. Perfect to keep you focused and writing!

A recent Huffington Post article, however, draws attention to studies dramatically claiming that “Sitting too much can kill you!” If that’s the case, you might want to consider a standing desk for your favorite writer. There are many variables to choosing the right one, but you can read some excellent reviews here.

Be the Writer

Writers are happy indeed when they’re surrounded by beautiful objects, rich memories, and even wear their passion for the craft in the form of jewelry.

Are you personally inspired by the classic quotations? These Literary Mind Notecards allow you to share words of wisdom from Emily Dickinson, William Morris, and Henry David Thoreau on these beautifully designed notes. The cards each feature a quote on the front, while you can add your own message inside.

This being the year it’s been, the women writers in your life might find these She Believed She Could Jotter Notebooks particularly apropos. Give her ambition wings by reminding her that believing can translate into doing!

Is your favorite writer working on a memoir? Or do they enjoy using their personal memories to help them generate new work? Rememory – A Lifetime of Memoires in One Little Box is a powerful way to do just that. Makes a great party game, too!

And there’s nothing like wearing your writing ambitions on your sleeve – in your ears – on your chest….  Jezebel Jewelry is an Etsy store that offers more than 200 writer-specific jewelry items, everything from Charles Dickens to Dr. Who, horror writers to the Greek classicists.

Just for Fun

Sometimes, writers just want to have fun! Here are some ways to help them do so.

The Coloring Book for Writers uses the latest fad for adult coloring books, while enhancing creativity by combining proven brainstorming techniques and activities with the act of coloring.

One of our favorite Stephen King quotes is: ‘If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.’ Need a book recommendation? The 100 Essential Novels Scratch-Off Chart shows 100 classic books from 1605 to present. Each timeless work is represented by an evocative, hand-drawn cover design. And then the bonus: gently scratch the gold foil off of each novel you’ve read and reveal an additional, narrative-specific design detail.

And where do you read all these novels? How about comfortably ensconced in your bathtub? This Bamboo Bathtub Caddy with Extendable Sides, Cellphone Tray & Integrated Wineglass Holder gives you not just a place to put your favorite volume, but also lets you read or even write on your cellphone or tablet while having a relaxing soak! Bring along a glass of wine and a candle, and enjoy being a writer!

Yes, TWC Has You Covered

Of course, some gifts come in non-tangible forms. If you are local to New Jersey, you might want to consider one of The Writers Circles’ great offerings for the writer in your life.
