Holiday time is a hopeful time for writers. We actually think we’ll get something done in those quiet hours between family gatherings – foolish dreamers that we are.
Still, there are some basic necessities that help us. For those of you who love a writer, or for those writers out there who like to hint for their gifts, here are a few ideas to make the holiday harvest successful.
For me, other than time and a quiet place to think, I need the right tools. I’ve found that a sluggish ballpoint is far less inspiring than a Uniball Micro. No, not the most glamorous gift on my list, but if I got a box or two in my stocking, I’d be pleased.
One of my students discovered the Seven Year Pen, reputed to write for a full seven years without refilling.
And our summer intern Jake Rosati shared solution to one of my regular writing woes – ideas lost while in the shower. Check out Aquanotes, supposedly waterproof writing pads for that idea that only comes when you have a head full of shampoo.
For something a bit more traditional, check out The Readers Catalog, with notebooks, pens, reading glasses (for the over 50 or the I-spend-most-of-my-time-with-a-book-in-my-hands set), lap-desks and more.
On zazzle.com, we found lots of literary goodies, including some cool ties for anyone who has to pretend that they like their day job.
Out of Print Clothing features t-shirts with the cover art from some classic books. While you’re writing your great novel, might as well wear your inspiration on your sleeve.
