I absolutely agree that doing the research for historical fiction provides a wealth of ideas that inspire you to write the next page. And I love the description of a “journey through the research” because that’s what it feels like, often – setting sail into unknown seas, waiting to find out what type of “monsters be out there.”

Having known the main character I didn’t think it would be difficult once I decided the direction and format of the story. How wrong I was!!! Though sometimes it does take four days to write a good paragraph–the exact paragraph you want–historical fiction is practically immune to writer’s block. History always provides some detail, some event so that you always know what happens next. After reading and researching more materials, you are always inspired to write another page.
